P V Sindhu wins

P. V. Sindhu silver medal winner in Olympics made history in December 2018 when she became the first Indian to win the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals held at Guangzhou, China.  Sindhu defeated title favourite Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-19, 21-17 in the womens singles final.

PV Sindhu has finally settled her finals blues. Playing her third successive season-ending finale, Sindhu, had been settling for silver this year. After the win, Sindhu stressed how important the win was for her and how it made her emotional.

“It was very important for me… everytime I come to the finals and I lose, I take it in a
positive way. But many people asked me what was happening. Maybe it was something going on in my mind. I became emotional because I played seven Super Series in between and lost in the finals. I was blank after the match and I had tears in my eyes thinking I had won a gold”, Sindhu said.

As Sindhu won the last point, she dropped to her knees and clutched her face, much in relief and happiness. She had won silver medals at Rio Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, two World Championships, BWF Super Series Finals (last year) but they were all silver and her mental fortitude was questioned every time.

Way to go Sindhu!
