New Miss World Crowned

Miss World 2018 was the 68th edition of the Miss World pageant that took place in  Sanya , China on 8 December 2018.  Manushi Chhillar  of India crowned her successor Vanessa Ponce de Leon of Mexico at the end of the event. She is the first Mexican woman to win Miss World. 118 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. “I can’t believe it. I really can’t believe it”, she said backstage. “And I think all the girls deserved it. I am proud to represent all of them. I will do as much as I can in the time I have got. Thank you so much, everyone.”

As Manushi Chhillar prepares herself to pass on her legacy to the winner of Miss World pageant this year, India lost the race to get the crown home this time. Anukreethy Vas, who won the Miss India title at this year’s Miss India 2018 pageant, crashed out of the Miss World 2018 race.

After Manushi Chhillar broke India’s dry spell by bringing the crown home after seventeen long years, Anukreethy was the biggest hope India had. The 20-year-old student from Tamil Nadu had won the crown of Miss India this year from among 30 promising contestants, thus entering the Miss World race.

Anukreethy had managed to reach the Top 30 contestants in the race to winning the Miss World crown, but sadly could not make it to the Top 12 winners list. The top five
contestants of this year’s pageant were Miss World Europe – Maria Vasilevich (Belarus), Miss World Caribbean – Kadijah Robinson (Jamaica), Miss World Americas – Vanessa Ponce De Leon (Mexico), Miss World Africa – Quiin Abenakyo (Uganda) and Miss World Asia and Oceania – Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan (Thailand).
