PM Modi gets Seoul Peace Prize

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with the Seoul Peace Prize for 2018 for his contribution to international cooperation and fostering global economic growth. He was credited for ‘Modinomics’ which the award committee said, “reduced social and economic disparity between the rich and the poor in the country”.
Mr. Modi is the 14 th recipient of this award. The Seoul Peace Prize is awarded biennially and was established in 1990. The award committee said that he was chosen for his efforts to improve the lives of India’s 1.35 billion people, for establishing economic cooperation ties with various countries and for greatly contributing to the stability of the Asia-Pacific region.
This he had achieved by promoting international cooperation through diplomatic policies. Mr. Modi will be given an award, plaque and honorarium of $200,000. He expressed his gratitude for the award and has accepted the award, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.
Past awardees include global personalities like former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and renowned international relief organisations like Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam.
